Background of the Study
With the rapid shift to e-learning in response to global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, universities are increasingly relying on digital platforms for course delivery, communication, and assessment. Ahmadu Bello University, located in Zaria LGA, Kaduna State, has implemented an e-learning portal to support its academic activities. However, the use of online platforms for education has introduced new cybersecurity challenges, including data breaches, unauthorized access, and cyber-attacks, which threaten the security and privacy of students and faculty.

Cybersecurity threats in e-learning portals are particularly concerning because they can compromise sensitive data, disrupt academic activities, and damage the reputation of the institution. This study aims to analyze the cybersecurity risks associated with the e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University and propose mitigation strategies to enhance the security of the platform.

Statement of the Problem
The e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University is susceptible to various cybersecurity threats, including hacking, phishing, and data leakage. These threats not only jeopardize the security of student and faculty data but also undermine the trust in the university’s digital systems. There is a need for a comprehensive analysis of these threats and the development of effective strategies to safeguard the e-learning portal from cyberattacks.

Objectives of the Study

1. To analyze the cybersecurity threats facing the e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University.

2. To assess the current security measures in place and identify vulnerabilities within the system.

3. To propose mitigation strategies to strengthen the security of the e-learning portal and protect user data.

Research Questions

1. What are the major cybersecurity threats facing the e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University?

2. How effective are the current security measures in protecting the e-learning portal from cyber-attacks?

3. What strategies can be implemented to enhance the cybersecurity of the e-learning portal at the university?

Research Hypotheses

1. The e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University is vulnerable to significant cybersecurity threats, including hacking and data breaches.

2. Current security measures are insufficient to fully protect the portal from cyber-attacks and data loss.

3. The implementation of advanced cybersecurity measures will significantly reduce the risks associated with the e-learning portal.

Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the cybersecurity challenges faced by universities using e-learning platforms. The findings will help Ahmadu Bello University and other institutions improve the security of their e-learning systems, ensuring that student and faculty data remain protected from cyber threats.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the analysis of cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies for the e-learning portal at Ahmadu Bello University, located in Zaria LGA, Kaduna State. It will not cover other digital systems or platforms used by the university.

Definitions of Terms
